Yonex Ezone 98 (305)

Updated: Apr 24, 2021

Introduction Slap! Boom! Pow! Those noises you'll find in a Batman movie from the '90s or...courtside next to Nick Kyrgios. Does this racket hold up to that kind of abuse? Let's find out!

Basic Specs

  • Head Size: 98

  • String Pattern: 16x19

  • Weight: 305g

I liked...

  • the predictability of this racket. I felt like whatever I did to the ball is what it did. If I wanted to hit an on the rise forehand flat to a corner it felt good. High and heavy loop from 15 feet back. No problem!

  • headlight balance. I like how maneuverable it was at the baseline and especially at the net. I felt I could get it where I wanted real fast.

I disliked...

  • there wasn't a lot to dislike about this. If I were to be picky about one thing is just a good racket. I don't think it was fancy in one category or another. It had good control, power, spin, feel, etc. But, there are other rackets in the market that excel in one or another of those categories.

What player should use this? An aggressive baseliner who doesn't mind closing the net to end the point. That brings me back to the predictability of this racket in that it goes where you tell it to. 7.7/10 Overall Rating:

  • 7.5/10 Feel

  • 8/10 Control

  • 7.5/10 Touch

  • 8/10 Power

  • 7.5/10 Spin

  • 7.5/10 Stability

  • 7/10 Plow Through

  • 8.5/10 Maneuverability

Similar Rackets

  • Wilson Blade 98 (16x19) - The Blade has the edge in the stability and plow-through department due to the higher than usual swing weight for rackets in its spec range.

Last Remarks Overall, this is a well-made racket. Now I think we can all say that we miss the Ezone DR 98, but for what this racket is, Yonex did a good job. I say good in the meaning of just that, good. Not great, but good for the fact it doesn't excel in any one category.
