Tecnifibre Black Code

Updated: Apr 24, 2021

Introduction A glossy black 5 sided string offering good access to spin with an added soft feel. Recently they added a few other colors to their lineup as well. In this playtest we're looking at the original black version.

I liked...

  • the slightly more muted feel without being dead. It gives me a nice sensation of control on the racket.

  • the softer feel. I felt no forearm pain from this one.

I disliked...

  • the durability of this one. I normally break strings in around 3 hours. I broke this one just shy of 2 hours. It felt great, but I don't want to be on the machine every day.

What player should use this? A player looking for access to spin and wanting good bite on the ball. Someone who wants playability over durability.

8/10 Overall Rating

  • 9/10 Feel

  • 9/10 Control

  • 7.5/10 Power

  • 8/10 Touch

  • 8/10 Spin

  • 8/10 Comfort

  • 6.5/10 Durability

  • 8/10 Tension Maintenance

Similar String

  • Solinco Tour Bite - These are very comparable strings. Tour Bite is a little more wirey, that is the best word to define it as. Black Code is a more solid feeling string.

  • Babolat RPM Blast - These are very similar in shape and color. Earlier in the review, I said Black Code is muted, but not dead. I feel that RPM comes with a dead feeling. For those that have tried RPM and didn't like the feel, Black Code would be the next string to try.

Last Remarks Overall, this playtest went well. I used to use this for about a year in my freshman year of college and it was nice to reunite with it to write this. This probably goes down as a 4th or 5th favorite string of mine. I love that the 17g is 1.24mm and the 16g is 1.28mm. The 16g is thick, but not such a big jump to being chunky feeling. Definitely worth a try!
